Facial aging can take many forms depending on your genetics, your lifestyle, and other factors. While most of us think of wrinkles when we think of aging, there’s much more to it than that. To effectively address a diverse array of age-related concerns, you need access to a diverse array of treatment options. Let’s take a look at the most common age-related complaints as well as my preferred options for treating them, from popular wrinkle reducers to double chin lipo.

Wrinkles and Crow’s Feet

If you think “BOTOX®” when you think of wrinkles, you’re not alone. This injectable wrinkle-fighter has been in use for nearly 2 decades, and in that time it’s made quite a name for itself. Although BOTOX shows promise for treating conditions ranging from migraine headaches to an overactive bladder, we like it best for wrinkles (especially those caused by facial movement). The active ingredient in BOTOX is a neuromodulator that intercepts nerve signals to prevent the tiny facial movements that cause certain wrinkles, specifically crow’s feet, forehead lines, and vertical lines between the eyebrows.

Loss of Volume

As the natural aging process progresses, many people notice a loss of volume—especially in the cheeks and lips. Over time, fat in the face naturally succumbs to gravity, sagging, and simply disappearing. This is exacerbated by the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which further contributes to a gaunt appearance. This volume can be restored with injectable hyaluronic acid fillers—most notably JUVÉDERM®, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, and JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC. These products have each been FDA-approved to treat the nasolabial folds, the cheeks, and the lips, respectively. Their soft gel formulations create very natural-feeling results.

Dark Spots, Enlarged Pores, Acne

We love HydraFacial®.This multi-purpose facial goes deeper than a traditional spa facial to unclog pores, sweep away dead skin and dullness, and infuse skin with nourishing serums. Gentle HydraFacial is a favorite among celebrities who want to get a gorgeous glow before a big event. Others like HydraFacial’s ability to “tune up” skin, reducing the appearance of pores, fading dark spots, and clearing away acne with regular appointments.

Double Chin

Ah, the double chin…a common complaint among people across all fitness levels. This pesky pocket of fat can appear regardless of your weight and be especially difficult to reduce. For men and women bothered by this symptom, there’s a relatively new treatment option that seems almost too good to be true. When it comes to quickly, effectively treating this complaint, we like liposuction. Although many people associate liposuction with larger areas of fat, such as the thighs or abdomen, it’s also great for treating smaller areas of fat like a double chin. Using a very thin cannula, your doctor can gently loosen unwanted fat and suction it away before reshaping the remaining fat, sculpting a beautiful jawline contour that looks great from any angle. Because we use such small cannulas to treat this area, resulting scars are quite discreet.
