Woman smiles after seeing the natural looking results of her Rhinoplasty

As a facial plastic surgeon, I find performing rhinoplasty surgery at our Des Moines practice to be among the most satisfying procedures, in part because it combines surgical technique with an artistic sense. Not only is it one of the more technically demanding surgeries, but the improvements are always on display, thus can truly boost a person’s self-esteem.

It’s also satisfying because there are no “cookie-cutter” rhinoplasty procedures. Each one is unique and patients want noses that enhance their facial features and don’t make them feel self-conscious. That’s not to say patients all want the same “perfect” nose. In fact, most women and men considering cosmetic nose surgery want their noses to retain some character.

Rhinoplasty Trends

The goals of patients who wanted a nose job historically emphasized correcting so-called “imperfections,” so they could have a nose that met a Eurocentric standard of beauty that typically considered narrower noses to be ideal. But people are veering away from those one-size-fits-all results and asking plastic surgeons to avoid making their noses too perfect.

With this broader definition of what people find attractive, rhinoplasty patients look for what may make them stand out rather than fit in. That’s exciting for facial plastic surgeons, such as myself and Dr. Cody Koch, who have advanced training and creative skills to produce results that meet our patients’ expectations.

Revision Rhinoplasty

People who have already had rhinoplasty sometimes want to reclaim some of the uniqueness that the procedure took away. Revision rhinoplasty can do that, but it’s a more complicated surgery than a first-time nose job. In fact, some consider revision rhinoplasty the most challenging of all plastic surgery procedures, so it’s even more important to choose a surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery.

The Rise of “Liquid Nose Jobs”

If you’ve been researching rhinoplasty, chances are you’ve come across articles about nonsurgical rhinoplasty. Sometimes called liquid nose jobs, these procedures involve using injectable fillers to create temporary changes to the size and contours of the nose. While it can be a good solution for people who want subtle changes, nonsurgical rhinoplasty results are temporary.

If you’re considering rhinoplasty, take a look at our gallery of before-and-after photos to see the results we create for actual patients. The photo gallery is often the best place to start when searching for a facial plastic surgeon. It’s also important to ensure they are board-certified and regularly perform cosmetic nose surgery.
