The actual rhinoplasty procedure is performed by restructuring the cartilage and bone that form the framework of the nose. The skin is then re-draped over the new shape. A small plastic splint is worn over the bridge of the nose for 4 to 5 days following the surgery.
The procedure takes place in an outpatient surgery center. It is most often performed using general anesthesia. Rhinoplasty usually takes between 1 and 2 hours to complete, although more complicated procedures may take longer.
