A double chin is a common and frustrating aesthetic concern for millions of people across the country. Fortunately at Koch Facial Plastic Surgery & Spa, we have an FDA-approved solution that does not require surgery: KYBELLA. Often called "double chin injections," KYBELLA treatments at our West Des Moines medical spa are a simple way to reduce stubborn fat below the chin. For our patients from Ames, Ankeny, and throughout the Des Moines area, we can provide a sleek, refined profile and a slimmer look to the whole face. Drs. Brent and Cody Koch are among the first in the area to offer this innovative, effective solution.

KYBELLA uses an ingredient called deoxycholic acid to break down treated fat, allowing it to be harmlessly absorbed by the body. Deoxycholic acid is actually produced naturally in the human body and helps us digest fat in the foods we eat. When administered to unwanted subcutaneous (under the skin) fat, this chemical works similarly to destroy fat cells, leaving healthy nearby cells untouched. The result is a smoother, more streamlined submental contour that lasts for years.

KYBELLA is FDA-approved to treat submental fullness, which is the medical term for what most of us know as a double chin. Submental fullness is incredibly common and, although it's caused by excess fat, it can occur in just about anyone regardless of weight.
The presence of a double chin can make you feel self-conscious in social situations or when being photographed. In the past, people who wanted to reduce this fat relied on liposuction. Although that is an effective solution, KYBELLA offers a straightforward, minimally invasive alternative for this timeless concern. We also offer CoolSculpting® for nonsurgical fat reduction under the chin.
If you have loose skin in the chin and neck area in addition to excess fat, you may be a better candidate for a face and neck lift or another approach. Our doctors have the experience to evaluate your condition and make recommendations that suit all your goals.
Treatment with KYBELLA is relatively brief; you can expect to be in our office for about 30 minutes. We begin your treatment by cleansing your neck. We then use a fine needle to make a series of quick injections into your double chin. Immediately after, we may offer you a cold compress to keep you comfortable.
As with other injectable procedures, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or dermal fillers, you may return to your normal activities as soon as your appointment is over. You may experience some bruising, redness, swelling, or tenderness at your injection sites, but these are typically temporary and resolve quickly.
For the best results, we often recommend a series of treatments spaced about a month apart. Most people get from 2 to 4 treatments, and up to 6 are possible. You'll begin to see your results within just a couple of days, and they'll gradually improve over the course of several months. Your unwanted fat continues to diminish with each treatment.
In the long term, you can expect your results to last indefinitely, especially if you maintain a steady weight and practice good skincare habits.
This private appointment is an important opportunity to discuss your aesthetic goals and your options. Men and women who are interested in trying KYBELLA are encouraged to request a consultation online or call our office at (515) 277-5555 to schedule an appointment.
In exchange for the nominal consultation fee, you'll receive a 1-on-1 consultation with either Dr. Brent Koch or Dr. Cody Koch. During this time, you'll discuss your lifestyle, medical history, aesthetic goals, and other topics relevant to your care. If you choose to undergo your procedure with us, your consultation fee goes toward the cost of your procedure
