Profound® RF Skin Tightening

The menu of nonsurgical skin tightening treatments at our West Des Moines, Iowa, practice now includes Profound, an innovative device that uses controlled heating to create smoother, tighter skin.

Profound Creates Younger Skin

Several factors can reduce the skin’s elasticity, including aging and sun exposure. Loose skin, especially on the cheeks, neck, and jaw line, is often one of the earliest signs of aging. Profound works by stimulating the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid–the 3 essential building blocks for tighter, healthy–looking skin.

About Profound

A common feature of many nonsurgical skin rejuvenation procedures is creating “micro–injuries” that trigger the body’s natural healing process. It’s that process that produces tighter, smoother, and more youthful–looking skin. The procedure uses thermally regulated and fractionated radio frequency–controlled needles, which are inserted into the patient’s problem areas to stimulate the healing response.

A Profound treatment essentially is an advanced type of radio frequency skin tightening that uses radio frequency energy to produce more dramatic results. In addition to skin tightening, the treatment can improve wrinkles and fine lines, pore size, rosacea, and acne. Ideal candidates for Profound skin tightening treatments–sometimes called a nonsurgical facelift—are concerned about lax skin and wrinkles.

In addition to facial rejuvenation, we can use Profound to address concerns about lax skin on the thighs, in the abdominal area, and the upper arms.

Profound Procedure

Our board–certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Brent Koch and Dr. Cody Koch, along with certified physician assistant Pam Banyas, perform the treatments. Our providers create a treatment plan designed to address the specific areas you’re concerned about.

A Profound treatment begins with your provider applying an anesthetic. Once the treatment area is numb, the provider holds the device and microneedles deliver the radio frequency energy below the surface of the skin into the dermis. The heat triggers the body’s healing process, which produces new collagen and elastin. The procedure also stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid, the ingredient in most dermal fillers that restores volume to the skin.

Profound differs from other laser skin rejuvenation platforms because it delivers the heat energy directly to the subcutaneous tissue (below the skin). Lasers need to penetrate the skin’s outer layers, which minimizes the effectiveness of those treatments.

A Profound treatment typically takes less than an hour and is performed at our practice. A single treatment should produce the desired results.

Results & Recovery

Results emerge gradually as new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are produced. It typically takes about 3 to 6 months to see the full results. Patients may experience some swelling and bruising, but they can immediately resume their normal activities after the treatment. Any minor redness, swelling or bruising resulting from treatment can typically be covered with makeup within 24 to 48 hours.
