Many of our Des Moines clients think of laser skin resurfacing as a powerful treatment that requires a lot of downtime. We're happy to say that's not the case, and you can get significant improvement from many skin irregularities with Sciton's MicroLaserPeel.
Wrinkles, brown spots, and dull skin texture are an inevitability of life and aging. Regardless of how well you take care of your skin, photoaging and time take their toll. A MicroLaserPeel at Koch Facial Plastic Surgery & Spa reduces fine lines and wrinkles and evens out texture and discoloration, leaving your skin looking refreshed and younger-looking.
The MicroLaserPeel (MLP) provides many of the benefits of traditional laser resurfacing with reduced downtime and discomfort. The depth of the treatment is customizable, and we can adjust the treatment from a superficial to a deep peel of the epidermis. Depending on your specific needs, our providers may recommend an eTwo™ treatment using the Sublative handpiece, which is similar to fractional laser skin resurfacing.
Some conditions we treat with MicroLaserPeel include:
- Fine to deeper wrinkles around the mouth and eyes
- Actinic keratosis
- Poor skin tone & texture
- Pigmentation irregularities
- Mild acne scarring
One of our highly trained medical staff will work with you to determine the depth of your treatment.

What to Expect
The procedure is gentle and safe, and most patients find discomfort to be minimal—like the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. We can apply a topical anesthetic if you are concerned about pain. This takes about 45 minutes to numb the treatment area.
Once you're comfortable and your skin has been prepped, the handpiece is guided across the treatment area where it delivers uniform and precise ablation at the level selected for your skin concerns. Treatment typically takes less than 30 minutes, but varies depending on the size of the treatment area.
We sometimes recommend platelet-rich plasma therapy as a complement to MicroLaserPeel. This treatment uses your own concentrated blood platelets to help the skin rebuild and renew itself.

Immediately after the procedure, you will probably feel discomfort similar to an intense sunburn, and you may have minor sloughing, tightness, and itchiness the following day. The redness will begin to fade and within 2 to 4 days after treatment you can start wearing makeup. You can return to work and other daily activities at your discretion, as long as you are diligent about protecting your skin from the sun. Your provider will review post-care techniques and products to maximize your result.
You should be fully healed within a week to 10 days—again, depending on depth—and your skin will look fresher, firmer, and more even. We may recommend a series of treatments, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart, for optimal improvement.
Before your treatment, our medical team will evaluate your skin and discuss your concerns. Then we will create an individualized treatment plan. We may recommend a different or additional treatment after consultation like Dermaplaning or BBL to give you optimal results.
We work hard to ensure that we achieve your desire results. If you would like to learn more about the Sciton MicroLaserPeel or any other services we offer, request a consultation online or give us a call at (515) 277-5555.
