Most patients have lots of questions about what the appointment will involve, how the treatment will feel, and what your recovery will be like afterward. There’s no reason to worry. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through what you can expect from the moment you arrive at our office to the reveal of your final results.
Your Filler Options
Lip augmentation is achieved through injectable dermal fillers, which add volume just beneath the skin. JUVÉDERM is one of the most popular products for lip injections because it creates natural-looking results that last for months at a time. It’s made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that occurs naturally in the body.
VOLBELLA®, a formulation of JUVÉDERM, is specifically designed for lip enhancement. When injected by a highly trained provider, it increases the size and plumpness of thin lips while smoothing out lines and wrinkles in the area.
Consultation
The first step in your lip augmentation journey is a complimentary consultation. You’ll meet with either Dr. Cody Koch, myself, or our physician assistant, Pam Banyas. Once you enter our modern, stylish office, you’ll sit down with one of us to discuss your goals, concerns, and physical and lifestyle considerations that may affect your treatment plan. Your injector will listen closely, examine your facial anatomy, and work with you to formulate the right approach for your desired results.
Treatment
We’ll perform your treatment in our office during an appointment that may last between 15 and 40 minutes. To enhance your comfort, we may use a topical anesthetic, local anesthetic, or nerve block.
The injector uses a very fine needle, placing the product just under the skin. You may need a series of injections to produce the results you’re looking for. Because dermal filler results are immediately visible, we can adjust your treatment as we go to make sure you leave looking the way you want to.
Recovery and Results
Once your appointment is complete, you’ll be able to return to work and other daily activities right away. You may have some redness or swelling around the injection sites for a couple of days. At your appointment, we’ll give you detailed instructions for aftercare, such as avoiding exercise for the rest of the day and not putting direct pressure on the treated area.
Results typically last for 6 months to a year, depending on the formulation, and will dissolve naturally as your body breaks down the product. When you notice volume diminishing, we’ll see you for a touch-up appointment to help you maintain your desired look.
